Visiting Card Design Ideas for Pakistani Businesses (and How NFC Changes the Layout)

Short answer: a good visiting card design is simple: your name and what you do large enough to read at arm’s length, one phone number, one way to see more (a website or QR code), and plenty of empty space. Use one or two colours from your logo, one clear font, and keep everything 3 mm inside the edge. If the card is an NFC card, the printed design can be even simpler, because the tap opens everything else.

This guide gives twelve layouts you can adapt, what to put on each side, and the mistakes that make cards look cheap.

What every card needs

  • Name and job title or what you do, in plain words (“Dental Surgeon”, not a slogan).
  • One phone number that you answer. Add WhatsApp if customers use it.
  • One way to learn more: a website, a profile link or a QR code.
  • Your logo, if you have one.

Everything else is optional. Email, address, social handles and a list of services all compete for attention; add them only if they help the next step.

Twelve layouts that work

  1. Logo centred, details below. Calm and formal, suits consultants and law firms.
  2. Name left, logo right. Balanced and easy to scan, suits most professionals.
  3. Full-colour front, white back. Bold front for the first impression; the back holds details.
  4. Dark background, light text. Looks premium, but needs a quality print finish to avoid fingerprints.
  5. Photo of you on the front. Common for real estate agents and personal brands.
  6. Single-colour logo on a plain card. The most economical and often the most elegant.
  7. Vertical (portrait) card. Distinctive, but harder to hold in a card holder.
  8. Services list on the back. Works for shops, workshops and clinics with several services.
  9. Map or location on the back. Useful when customers need to find a shop.
  10. QR code panel on the back. Sends people to your profile, menu or catalogue.
  11. Pattern or texture as background. Keep it subtle so text stays readable.
  12. Card that matches the product. A bakery card that looks like packaging, a tailor’s card in a fabric tone.

Colour and fonts

  • Choose one main colour and one accent from your logo.
  • Use dark text on a light background for the most reliable reading, especially for small type.
  • Use one font family with two weights (regular and bold) rather than several different fonts.
  • Keep body text at 7 pt or larger in print; smaller type is hard to read.

Mistakes that make a card look amateur

  • Low-resolution logo copied from a social media profile.
  • Five fonts and four colours on one card.
  • Text too close to the edge, so the cutter clips it.
  • Too much information: every service, three phone numbers and two addresses.
  • Using a screenshot of a design instead of a print-ready file.

How an NFC card changes the design

A paper card has to carry all your details. An NFC card opens a digital profile when tapped on a phone, so the printed card only needs your name, title, logo and a way for people without NFC to open the same profile, such as a QR code. The profile holds the phone numbers, WhatsApp, website, location and social links, and you can update it without reprinting.

Materials change the design too:

  • PVC takes a full-colour design on both sides.
  • Metal is printed in a single colour (white or brown) on the metal side; put detail on the PVC side, which is also the side that taps.
  • Wood is printed in a single colour on both sides, so simple logos work best.

Our guide to metal vs PVC vs wooden cards compares them, and the artwork guide lists file formats.
